This photoshoot took a long time to do because I wasn't really sure how I wanted to go about it, but once I got to it, I think it turned out really well. I probably should have edited it a little bit because I had to make do with things I had at home like the simple backdrop but I don't like editing because 1) I'm not good at it and 2) I like to think that my pictures are good because I've taken them that way, not because of alterations, but that's just me. Anyways, here's portrait #1.

At first I didn't want to do this title out of the three options because it seemed like the easiest and the one that most people would go for. It also seemed like there wasn't much variety to it, but while in Tennessee I saw this sign while walking around and I realized that it fit this prompt pretty well, so I shot right away. It was hard to capture the image because people kept walking by, but once I got it, it was perfect. I really like how it turned out and I also liked the choice of three prompts, to pick which one you like best.
On my trip to Tennessee this weekend, we were walking through Broadway in Nashville and it was incredible. Live music in every bar, people having fun and bright lights everywhere. There was so much to do and I captured this image which is fitting of this prompt. At first, I of course wanted to go for a black and white, creepy-ish photo of blatant shadows, but when I got this picture I absolutely loved that there are subtle shadows, and you can still have brightness/fun with shadows involved.
This prompt was kind of hard for me because I usually like to photograph the creepier, darker side of things because there's just so many options but this was a good change of pace. I couldn't really think of much to do and normally I don't like to photograph the sunset either because it's just very common and a lot of sunset pictures are edited to make them look more vibrant which in contrast makes the rest of sunset pictures pale in comparison, but I really liked this one that I took on the way to Tennessee and it fit the theme well. It also reminds me of all the good family trips and car rides, so it really did turn out to be our little happiness.
I liked this idea of a prompt, but I knew a lot of people would be using the ghost with glasses trend that was going around, so I tried to do something different. I didn't really know what to do, but I was babysitting late the other night and saw the baby sleeping with her blanket pulled over her face, so I thought that even though it didn't exactly fit the prompt, I could make it work. It was hard to take a picture of an electronic because of the reflection and the angle that I had to take the picture at. I also didn't like it because it felt like taking a picture of a picture, but in the end I think it worked out alright.
This prompt idea came pretty quickly to me. I shot right in my room so the location was easy, however the lighting wasn't the best and it took a couple tries to find the right angle. I had the dried flower in my room already so when I saw it, everything kind of just clicked into place. It fit with the word 'purpose' in my head. Beautiful, but layered with thorns. Pretty and dangerous. Misleading?Maybe. Who knows. Out of context, this image could have any backstory, which is what I love so much about photography in general. What even is purpose, and how does it relate to this image? We may never truly know.
This unit, if I'm going to be honest, gave me a headache. It took me forever to figure out what I wanted to do, and I really don't like using the words "love" and "hate" frequently. I finally got my pictures and while it may have looked completely different to you, the first picture represents women of power to me, and the second one pictures just the confusing world of today, and how we get so sucked into our phones that there's no time for anything besides that and studying or doing schoolwork. This project was very stressful for a bunch of reasons. First, I obviously couldn't figure out how to capture this, and once I did, while I was uploading from my camera to my computer, my crappy adapter glitched halfway through, and every single picture just disappeared from my sd card, my computer folders, and they weren't in the trash on my computer either. Just gone. So I've probably spent 5+ hours of the past week trying to download different apps to bring back my missing photos without having to spend money on it, and then I had to go and get every picture back one. at. a. time. which you can imagine took quite a long time, and even though I got most of them back, a lot of them still had glitches on the image/wouldn't fully show up. Luckily I was able to get back my two keeper photos, but sadly not many more than that. Anyways, thanks for caring enough to read all the way to here. Until next time.
Process: I've never really done a big photoshoot before, one with the whole getup of planned outfits, and even now I like to keep my options open and just do what feels right in the moment while capturing the photos. When I heard this objective, to prove that the camera is just a box and that the human creates the mood, I got really excited. This was a very open-ended project, but I knew I could have so much fun with it. Normally I stick to landscapes and items, because they won't be disappointed if the photos don't turn out and if I take too long setting up my camera and getting prepared. I had a couple of ideas swirling around about how I would do this assignment, but eventually this is what I chose. Honestly, I think all of the pictures turned out so well, and out of the 400+ photos, these two just really stood out when I thought about mood. They give off such an eerie sensation that tells you "you shouldn't be looking", that makes you feel like you're imposing on the pictures which I just love so much.
Just in case someone was interested in looking at some of my other pictures from this unit, here are some of the best photos I got that I really liked. enjoy:) |
